WHAT EXACTLY IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a nonsurgical treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles in people 18 to 65 years of age. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).
BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by a healthcare professional as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.
While BOTOX® is best known for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, it is also gaining popularity as a preventative measure against wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, and at the corners of the eyes. Amerejuve offers free consultations to ensure you are a good candidate for BOTOX® and that it's the best option for achieving your goals.

FACTS ABOUT BOTOX® COSMETIC:

BOTOX® Cosmetic, introduced in 2002, is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows.

With real, noticeable results, no surgery, and no recovery time, there are many reasons why BOTOX® Cosmetic has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors. Approximately 11.8 million BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures have been administered in the United States since 2002. 97% of 117 patients surveyed were satisfied with the results of their BOTOX® experience (2,3).

Botox FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is Botox right for me?

If you are looking for a way to reverse time, or to look more relaxed instead of tense all the time. We offer free Botox consults and go over your areas of concerns and discuss if you are a good candidate.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

Botox works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

What should I expect during my Botox treatment?

Some patients report a pinch during the injection itself. If you're concerned about the discomfort, it may be possible to use ice or a numbing cream to ensure minimal discomfort.

Can I get BOTOX® with my skin tone?

As Botox is injected under the skin, skin tone does not effect your treatment. Any skin tone can be treated with BOTOX® to address wrinkles and lines between the eyebrows and at the corner of the eyes (crow's feet).

What do I expect right after Botox injections?

You may have some redness but will subside within a few minutes. We will go over Post Botox instructions which include not to exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Remain upright for 4 hours. Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or tanning for at least 7 days to up to 2 weeks. Avoid facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and massages at least 7 days to up to 2 weeks.

When will I see results from a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months.

How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last? Is Botox permanent?

Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines and wrinkles will look like they did before treatment. The Botox solution is gradually absorbed by your body over time and most typically lasts 3 – 4 months. This makes Botox an ideal solution for TMJ pain as patients can experience immediate pain relief, while implementing solutions to remedy the underlying cause of the pain; such as a soft diet, jaw exercises, or being fitted with customized night guard to prevent teeth clenching and grinding at night.

Will Botox Treatment Hurt?

As with any injection, there may be some pain associated with the injection of
Botox, but this is restricted to the insertion of the needle. Pain will be brief and you
will be able to resume your normal activities directly after the appointment.

What are the long term effects of Botox?

Most side effects are temporary and should fade within a few days. However, drooping eyelids, drooling, and asymmetry could be caused by the unintentional effects of the toxin on the muscles surrounding the target areas of the drug, if any of these occur, it could take several weeks to improve as the toxin wears off.

What is a unit of BOTOX®?

A unit is a way to measure how much BOTOX® is injected into the muscle. There are 12 units in a syringe of BOTOX® . Multiple units can be injected at a time.

How many Botox units do I get?

Every person is different in the amount of units each person gets due to what look one is trying to achieve relaxed or some say more “frozen”, size of forehead, or simply male or female. Male have double the muscle mass females have so most of the time double the amount of Botox for males.

Where can BOTOX® be injected?

The three most common areas for BOTOX® injections are between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and next to the eyes where "crow's feet" form. BOTOX® can improve your appearance and prevent the formation of deep expression lines that make you look older. BOTOX® will not help fine lines or wrinkles that are not due to facial expressions. Studies have shown clients who suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can benefit from BOTOX® injections.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® is administered by injection; it relaxes the muscles where it is injected, decreasing and preventing wrinkling of the skin. With a skilled injector, the results are relaxed, natural-looking facial expressions.

How many units of BOTOX® does it take to get the look I want?

It depends on the depth of the wrinkles. On average, the amount for the forehead is 15-20 units, 18-20 units for frown lines, and between 6-12 units per eye for crow's feet.

Who injects the BOTOX®?

At Premier Cosmetic, it is important for us to ensure a licensed practitioner administers your injections. A licensed registered MD or PA administers all injectables done at Premier Cosmetic facilities. Our MD/PA's credentials are displayed and available for your convenience.

Is Botox The Solution for TMJ Pain ?

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are a group of conditions that affect the temporomandibular jaw joint and the surrounding muscles, often resulting in prolonged and severe pain. Botox works by paralyzing the tight muscles around the jaw, eliminating the resulting pain. Botox can also be used to relieve headaches caused by clenching or grinding. A small amount of Botox is injected into the problematic muscles, and injection sites will be specifically formulated to target the specific causes of your TMJ pain.

Do I need a follow up?

Follow ups are great and typically schedule around 2 weeks post. 2 weeks after would be a great time to evaluate and go ahead with a touch up at that time if needed.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is certainly not just for women. If you are a man and think it's time to do something about those moderate to severe glabellar lines between your brows, talk to an Amerejuve healthcare professional about whether BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you.

JUVEDERM DERMAL FILLER

Juvederm® is the only hyaluronic acid filler with FDA approval to last up to one year.

Juvederm®, an injectable gel, is the ultimate “next-generation” smooth consistency gel dermal filler. This filler helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

What does Juvederm® do?

Juvederm® injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.

How is Juvederm® injectable gel different from Botox® Cosmetic?

Juvederm® injectable gel is a “next-generation” hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides volume and is used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin, such as perioral lines and nasolabial folds (lines around your mouth and nose). Juvederm® restores your skin's volume for a smooth, natural look and feel. Botox® Cosmetic is not a filler. Botox® Cosmetic relaxes muscle activity and is used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by the dominant frown muscles between the eyebrows (the glabellar area). This allows the two vertical lines between the brows, often referred to as the “11,” to temporarily diminish for a smoother appearance.

What makes Juvederm® different from other dermal fillers?

Juvederm® is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year.* The unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels. Juvederm® is also the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.

Juvederm® is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds).

What will treatment with Juvederm® injectable gel accomplish?

Juvederm® injectable gel will help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year. Ask your doctor what you should expect from your initial treatment and when they would recommend rescheduling another appointment.

Is treatment with Juvederm® injectable gel painful?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of Juvederm® allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. Juvederm® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort.

How long does treatment usually take?

The injection process takes about 15 minutes.

What are the possible side effects of Juvederm® injectable gel?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

Can people with different skin tones/colors be treated with Juvederm®?

Yes. In fact, Juvederm® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with Juvederm® showed no increased risk of hyper-pigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

How long does Restylane and Juvederm last?

Restylane injectable gel has been clinically proven to provide results that last up to 6 months, with only one follow-up treatment at either 4 or 6 months. Your healthcare professional can work with you to help you establish your Restylane Regimen.

Juvederm has demonstrated results that last anywhere between 9 and 12 months. However, results are temporary; touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal results.

Where can you have dermal fillers injected?

Dermal fillers can be used individually to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds or laugh lines); lipstick lines (the area just below the nose and above the upper lip); the corners of the mouth; and marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jaw line). The safety and effectiveness of dermal fillers for the treatment of anatomic regions other than nasolabial folds have not been established in controlled clinical studies.
